Uh, No Thanks

Now that President Bush has completely trashed Iraq, he’s offering a helping hand to Israel and the Palestinians.

President Bush announced today that he will sponsor a new international conference this fall aimed at reviving moribund Middle East peace talks and paving the way toward a final settlement that would see a new Palestinian state existing side by side with Israel.

It’s like a paraphrase of what Ronald Reagan used to say were the scariest words in the English language: “I’m George W. Bush and I’m here to help.”

Just ask the folks in New Orleans.

  1. Just ask the folks in New Orleans.

    No fucking kidding.

    Yeesh.

So, Shrub is going to find some Middle Eastern nation – any Middle Eastern nation – willing to accept Freedom[tm] and Democracy[tm] – even if he has to kill every last one of them Islamofascists to do it. Effing brilliant.

He’s got seventeen months. It took years for Carter to get Sadat and Begin to the table. Sharon and Olmert (sp?) took Israel to whole new anti-Palestinian places politically, so the gap is probably wider now than in many years. The Palestinian electorate, meanwhile, has endorsed Hamas over (the near-incurably corrupt) Fatah – and we won’t deal with them tehrrrists. Sounds like a recipe for success to me.

Maybe he should go back to talking North Korea out of its nukes. Or maybe he should just go back to Crawford.

  3. Bill Richardson did a pretty good job talking the North Koreans down, actually.

Hopefully, Dubya’s idea of help isn’t the same as Cheney’s vision of “helping” Iran.

    LOL ~ CRAWFORD, PLEASE!!
