Here’s Your Hat…

The Prime Minister of Iraq says we can leave any time.

Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Saturday that the Iraqi army and police are capable of keeping security in the country when American troops leave “any time they want,” though he acknowledged the forces need further weapons and training.

The embattled prime minister sought to show confidence at a time when congressional pressure is growing for a withdrawal and the Bush administration reported little progress had been made on the most vital of a series of political benchmarks it wants al-Maliki to carry out.

Hey, you don’t have to ask me twice. Take the guy at his word and let’s get the hell out now.

It sounds like the message is getting through — however awkwardly — to Capitol Hill. Think they could forward it on to the White House?

  1. Dumbya’s got to get Maliki the right talking points. Besides, if we just wait for Gen. Petraeus’s September report, everything will look fine (why else would Dumbya create expectations for a report that’s supposedly not written yet?)

This hands Bush an absolutely primo, face-saving exit. Please let him have the sense to take it.

And leave behind billions of dollars worth of military bases that the American sheeple have already paid for? Not bloody likely. Not without a puppet government that has good prospects of remaining in power who will act against their own people’s interests to serve our own.

  5. And leave behind billions of dollars worth of military bases…

    EXACTLY!

You can add “And piss off the Saudis who want us there to keep the hoards of radicals from their borders?”

  6. Oops! End italics before “EXACTLY”

The real estate is hardly as worthwhile as the billions squandered to fill the pockets of ShrubCo’s backers. Besides, given the bang-up job they’ve been doing actually building anything over there, Halliburton, Bechtel et al might actually want to bail on their unfinished, mismanaged projects – so long as they keep the Federal funds allocated to those projects.

Once again, the only people who really get screwed are the Iraqis – who were promised a bright shiny new Free[tm] and Democratic[tm] future, and instead got a League-of-Nations style Parliament, crumbling shanties for schools and hospitals, and armed thugs in police uniforms – and average Americans – whose present and future have both been robbed blind in the name of nascent neofascism, corporate hegemony, cronyism and the drive to Teh End Tymes.
