Leahy To Bush: You And Me At High Noon

Game on:

The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said yesterday that he will attempt to cite the White House for criminal contempt of Congress if it does not turn over documents related to the firing of nine federal prosecutors.

"If they don’t cooperate, yes, I’d go that far," Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.) said on NBC‘s "Meet the Press." "This is very important to the American people."

Given that W is getting more and more concerned about his place in history as his reign comes to a close, one could imagine how thrilled he must be about the possibility of ending that reign in court.

C&L has the Leahy clip for your viewing pleasure.

  1. As much as I would adore this to happen, this is merely Leahy’s bargining chip.

This is Leahy’s way of getting Bush to the negotiation table, allowing the Bush White House to appear to ‘be magnamous and bipartisan’. It’s big stick diplomacy with everyone knowing the steps so that the stick doesn’t actually get used.

Though it’s a nice little fantasy.

  2. I picture Bush responding with, “Bring it on.” Hey, it worked before, right?

Sarah, that’s what it would be if the Oval Office was inhabited by “normal” people…………..

I really don’t know what to expect. Certainly this is the next logical step for Leahy whether this goes to court or not.

It’s just so difficult to know what to think when the people in the Oval Office have absolutely no business there.

  4. I’ve got a case of PopSecret. Will it be enough?

  5. We got a popcorn maker as part of the wedding loot, so you’re covered. 🙂

Speaking of “Bring it on”, today is the fourth anniversary of that idiotic dare.

  7. It’s just so difficult to know what to think when the people in the Oval Office have absolutely no business there.

Actually, oddjob, I believe the problem is that there is nothing but Business (Big Business) in the Oval Office.

When the Founding Fathers set up this republic, I seriously doubt that they ever expected that we would one day have occupants in the Executive Branch who said, “Fuck you, we can do whatever we want. Constitution, shmonstitution…”

“Fuck you, we can do whatever we want. Constitution, shmonstitution…”

Actually it’s worse than that because their claim is that the Constitution gives the president the right to be a dictator during time of war.

And if the war will never cease?

    …………..

I expect the founding father’s spinning to result in their shooting out of the earth’s crust at any moment.

And if the war will never cease?

That’s the genius behind claiming it’s a never-ending war… And they win the bonus round!

So what? Even if Congress gets the documents, will they actually use the information for something other than a non-binding resolution?

I’m sick to death of this administration flouting the intent and the letter of the laws of the land and Congress unabashedly allowing this to continue.
