“Hey, Kids! Let’s Put On A War!”

We can call it Babes Old Fools in Arms!

Sen. Joseph Lieberman said Sunday the United States should consider a military strike against Iran because of Tehran’s involvement in Iraq.

“I think we’ve got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq,” Lieberman said. “And to me, that would include a strike over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers.”
[…]
“We’ve said so publicly that the Iranians have a base in Iran at which they are training Iraqis who are coming in and killing Americans. By some estimates, they have killed as many as 200 American soldiers,” Lieberman said. “Well, we can tell them we want them to stop that. But if there’s any hope of the Iranians living according to the international rule of law and stopping, for instance, their nuclear weapons development, we can’t just talk to them.”

He added, “If they don’t play by the rules, we’ve got to use our force, and to me, that would include taking military action to stop them from doing what they’re doing.”

Lieberman said much of the action could probably be done by air, although he would leave the strategy to the generals in charge. “I want to make clear I’m not talking about a massive ground invasion of Iran,” Lieberman said.

“They can’t believe that they have immunity for training and equipping people to come in and kill Americans,” he said. “We cannot let them get away with it. If we do, they’ll take that as a sign of weakness on our part and we will pay for it in Iraq and throughout the region and ultimately right here at home.”

What would life be without a domino theory to give it meaning?

  1. I would just like to take this opportunity to once again thank the people of Connecticut for (re)electing Sen. Lieberman [I -(diot)] and to ask if that state has a recall provision, and if so, why the fuck have they not used it!!!

  2. Paen

Once again useless old men are calling for a war where the young will be sent to die.

  3. And once again we hear from the pimps for war who make such statements without a shred of proof and expect everyone to believe them. Plus the fact the Bush Administration has openly admitted they are carrying out all kind of ops across the boarder including paying an organization on our own State departments list of terrorist groups to “Disrupt” the conditions in Iran. And they expect the Iranians to just lie down and say “Woof Woof, Scratch my belly and I’ll be good”? What a bunch of ignorant assholes. And the idiot from Conn. has to be one of the worst of the lot.

  4. At least most news outlets are calling Lieberman an independent now instead of keeping him a Democrat. Yeah, I’m looking for the silver lining.

If the Dems can pick up even a couple of seats in the Senate in 2008, we can push him off into irrelevancy once and for all.

I’m with you, Incertus. I’d love to see Holy Joe booted from the caucus in 2009, but I’m a student of history. If the Dems get to 60 in the Senate, they’ll still kiss Joe’s rear, and the GOP’s while they’re at it. Old habits and all that.

  6. Constant Comment

And we wonder exactly WHY it is that Iran wants nukes? Can’t say that I blame them, what with all the saber-rattling going on from the terrorists that run the administration. Joe should just switch parties and get it the fuck over with already.

  7. hey, why not? attacking iraq worked out so well, why not give it a go with their neighbours?

  8. Lieberman makes me want to fucking puke. I GAG on the stench of his self-righteous hypocrisy from one state over!

Because, bought dogs in government isn’t our only problem.

  10. And to think that this man was one election and a pissed off sharpshooter away from being the president.

  11. “This war isn’t working. The obvious solution is: start another war!”

Turn that around… say, “But if there’s any hope of the Americans living according to the international rule of law and stopping, for instance, their nuclear weapons development, we can’t just talk to them.” …and we are in deep doo doo.

  13. Oh, yeah – there’s no way to recall the idiot, and the Democratic Party did not elect him, they nominated NED LAMONT.

That the national Democratic party still kisses his ass, is their deal. I wrote them to ask them to strip him of his Dem Party seniority as soon as he pledged Indy.

Of course not. They don’t want the Iranians to cooperate or capitulate, they want to provoke the Iranians into belligerence. They’re *hoping* to start another war. They need another War Profiteering Slush Fund, and they need a Big Scary Enemy so that Americans will cry out for Big Daddy Government to sweep in and protect them and keep the Scary Bad Men away. That’s the only chance Republicans think they have, at this point.

  15. Every time Lieberman or McCain starts talking, this is what I hear:

“Like the time we went over to Shelbyville during the war, I wore an onion on my belt….which was the style at the time… you couldn’t get those white ones, you could only get those big yellow ones… now where was I… oh yeah, the important thing was I was wearing an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time, you couldn’t get those… (trails off)”

  16. Arakasi

I guess that Lieberman has completely forgotten that the US has a long history of arming third parties to fight our enemies by proxy. It’s understandable, though – it’s not like anyone here in the US really heard about Iran-Contra or the Afghani Mujahideen
