Attorneygate Update

Rove protégé Tim Griffin, who replaced Attorneygater Bud Cummins as Eastern Arkansas’ US Attorney, has resigned.

Michael Teague, a spokesperson for Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR), commented: “His departure from the US Attorney Office for the Eastern District of Arkansas is a positive development and the Senator is looking forward to having credible leadership restored there.” Ouch!

But don’t weep for Griffin, who looks to land on his feet: Presumed GOP presidential candidate Fred Thompson’s campaign is already “in talks” with him about taking a top job with the campaign.

Of course they are.

Regarding the US Attorney’s position in Arkansas, Dumbya is still the appointment-decision maker (TM), so expect someone as corrupt, or worse.

As for Fred, this tin-ear sort of move is a mistake, but probably not fatal to his candidacy in and of itself. However, continuing such errors could sink him.

  2. It’s got to suck to be a Republican presidential candidate right now–assuming you’re not delusional. You can’t run away from the major party initiatives because the base decides the nomination and they all like what Bush has done, but you can’t embrace Bush without getting Goldwatered in the general election.

By the way, none of this should be taken as sympathy for the Republicans currently running for President.

Considering Thompson also seems to have hired a former Nixon spy as a campaign aide ( this seems to be pretty par for the course. I suppose it might be too much for the Democrats to highlight this??
