On This Date

On May 29, 1917, John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts.

Had he lived, he would be 90 years old today. Given his health — he was diagnosed with Addison’s disease in 1947 — and his risky lifestyle, chances are that he would not have lived a long life had he not been assassinated in 1963. But it is hard to imagine him as an old man; to those of us who remember him, he will always be 46 years old.

May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963

Don’t let it be forgot
That once there was a spot
For one brief shining moment
That was known as Camelot

JFK and Jacqueline will always be America’s royal couple to me. Their brilliance, taste, elan, youth, and beauty were the things of dreams.

Even harder to imagine that JFK was less than six years younger than Ronald Reagan…

  4. There are so many pictures and postcards of JFK in our family photo albums that we call him Uncle Jack.

My mother was hugely in love with RFK, though, and one of the high points of her life was when she got to shake his hand only a couple of weeks before he, too, was killed.
