Um…WHAT?!

Bush could double force by Christmas:

The Bush administration is quietly on track to nearly double the number of combat troops in Iraq this year, an analysis of Pentagon deployment orders showed Monday.

The little-noticed second surge, designed to reinforce U.S. troops in Iraq, is being executed by sending more combat brigades and extending tours of duty for troops already there.

The actions could boost the number of combat soldiers from 52,500 in early January to as many as 98,000 by the end of this year if the Pentagon overlaps arriving and departing combat brigades.

I am without words. I am wordless.

Okay, maybe one word. Fuck.

This is no real suprise, if one has been listening. Several Iowa National Guard units have had their tours extended. The families found out about the extension through the local news and not from the military. And IIRC, so did the units.

IMNSHO, all the talk about September being a ‘moment of truth’ is because by that point, some of the units (regular army, reserve, or nat’l guard) may have been there so long that they just might revolt.

  2. I guess I ain’t surprised either. They’ve been undercounting troops (like, counting just combat troops not support personnel); they keep coming up with surges and tides and whatever else they want to call it every 6 or 9 months; they keep extending tours and shortening leave; they lie about everything; they don’t plan to leave Iraq at all….

I mean, it just adds up to one thing. The only wonder is that some reporter actually figured it out too.

Didn’t anyone learn ANYTHING from Vietnam? We are doing the same darn thing again, and I am really, really sick of W. and his sneaky shit.

would agree… feigning surprise with no follow-up is not a meaningful level of discourse.

    Fucking Democrats.

Can you double down on a double down? Thems not Vegas roolz baby.

Or as the guy puts it in Bachelor Party (Hanks+Zmed=GENIUS): “I bet my balls, and shook on it!”

I wonder if bush even remembers how to tell the truth.

And this is not to mention what they will do to increase the size of their mercenary forces which so far has been a great way to hide the size and expense of our involvement from the American public.

“And this is not to mention what they will do to increase the size of their mercenary forces…”

yes… the US Shadow Force is sizable and growing. As a side note, the Chinese just bought a 10 percent interest in Blackwater for 3 billion.

This post is a bit old but not outdated by much.

How do you expect the fuckwit to remember something he has never learned in all his life. And where would he have learned it? From his lying ass of a father?

  10. Does that include private contractors like blackwater?

Okay, I realize I’m coming late to this discussion and it may be that no one will see this, but I just went to Yahoo! News hoping against hope that they might have this as one of their top headlines. Nope, of course not. But they do have a story about how this summer will be a more active hurricane season than usual. Sooo….in light of this news, what are the odds that the National Guard will have the resources to come to the aid of any areas that get hit?

  12. My neighbor is being sent back in June; he’s only been home since November after spending 4 years in Afghanistan and Iraq. Needless to say, we’re very upset; we’re just getting to know him and think he’s a great guy.
